Frequently asked questions
Yes, of course! Sure Sharp is fully licensed and insured to sharpen knives in New Jersey.
Yes, $99 is a flat fee which covers the cost of pickup, sharpening of up to 10 knives, and return to the same location. It also includes NJ sales tax.
We use multiple methods to sharpen knives, but mostly we use a slow speed, wet-stone method that sharpens a blade to a razor sharp edge, and eliminates overheating of the blade. We remove all burrs and hone the blade with a slow speed leather wheel. We then clean the knives with alchohol and package them safely.
In most cases (barring any repairs, weather or other unforseeable events, your knives will be returned to you with 1-3 days. We will always let you know the window of time your knives will be returned.
Yes, to simplify matters, and to make it feasible to offer pickup and delivery, our flat fee is $99. This covers up to 10 knives, scissors and nail clippers.
Sure. We will ring your doorbell or knock on your door within the assigned pickup window. Happy to say hi!
We'd argue that is a wasteful and unsustainable way to live. We love the great American tradition of repair and reuse. And that's what we offer with our knife sharpening. There was a time in America where there were mulitple knife and tool sharpeners in every town. With cheap products, we tend to dispose of goods rather than repair them. But even a cheap set of knives can be sharpened to a razor sharp edge that can last for many months. In some cases, the edge we put on your knives would be far superior than the factory edge. Sorry for the soapbox speech, but we are passionate about being good stewards of our resources!
Yes, we will also sharpen your nail clippers. These count as 1 item.
Yes, simply go into your account login page and click "cancel order." Please do so 24 hours before pickup or we may charge a $20 pickup fee.
The answer to this question depends on the quality of the steel, the cutting surface, and frequency of use. But, the simple answer is: 6 months for the average homeowner. 3 months will guarantee a sharp edge is maintained at all times. It's up to you, we don't pressure, we just want to provide whatever level of service you need.
Yes! Again, to keep things simple (do you see a pattern here?), we charge an additional $10 per knife or scissors.
For example: 13 knives would be: $99 for the first 10, and then $30 for the additional 3, for a total cost of: $129.
Because we enjoy the neigborly, community-based nature of our service, we limit our service to an area local to our shop in Pittstown. For now, those areas are:
-Franklin Township
-Clinton Township
-Town of Clinton
-Alexandria Township
-Union Township
Just about. If there is a question about your knife, or we have some kind of concern, we will contact you by email to let you know.
Yes, anything typically considered a "knife" will be counted towards your 10 knives for $99 amount.
You can! BUT, you will probably not be able to efficiently sharpen very dull knives. We use a commercial grade, low-speed, wet stone to achieve razor sharp edges. For most homeowners, this level of equipment would not be cost effective to purchase. Additionally knife sharpening requires many years of practice and experience. It is a skill that can't be developed quickly, so it does require the use of a professional.
We just say: do the best you can. A shoebox works well, but if you don't have that, customers often wrap them in a dish towel. We will provide packing material if yours is not sufficient to protect the knives.
